More than 500 health workers tragically lost their lives to Ebola and hundreds more were infected with the virus while battling the Ebola epidemic in West Africa in 2014 and 2015. Throughout the epidemic, the Frontline Health Workers Coalition sought to focus attention on addressing the needs of local frontline health workers in the region, as well as the need for focused investment on building a resilient and sustainable, locally led frontline health workforce able to detect, report and respond to threats like Ebola and deliver essential, lifesaving health services.
